Planting a Steep Bank or Slope

with Jill and Brannen of Spriggly’s Beescaping

Experiencing erosion issues? Learn to tackle them with low-maintenance and attractive native plantings that are as beneficial to you as they are to the ecosystem around you. This class will make sure you leave with a selection of next steps in mind for your steep and sloping areas. Make a day out of it by inviting a friend and getting some perfect plants to put into your space afterwards.

First of all, allow me to introduce the wonderful Jill and Brannen of Spriggly’s. They are, like, this engaging, delightful, informative couple who play off each other’s strengths as they lead though-provoking and passionate classes to the quite information-hungry guests of Winding Stair Farm. I, personally, can’t find enough time to spend with them! As well as this, they have published two books (A Guide to the Wonderful World Around Us: Notes on Nature AND Finding Home: A story of a Mason Bee – they say it’s a children’s book, but it’s definitely for ALL ages). Both books are available to buy at Winding Stair Farm. And of course, you could ask nicely to have your copy signed when you come to this class. They also provide native-plant based landscaping and habitat restoration, and have created amazing signage for natural areas to educate the public.

Brannen and Jill are both passionate about our native pollinators. They’ll quite happily bend your ear (and I know you’ll be equally content to listen) about the many animals we can enjoy and embrace in our local environment. One of the many, many advantages to planting native plants is the specialist food they provide to these indigenous species of bees, butterflies, moths, hummingbirds and more. As they lead this annual class we host here at the nursery (every year, with a different local expert), they’ll bring the beauty and vast functionality of native plants into the mix as solutions to THE MOST FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTION we receive here at the nursery.

From helping with erosion control to providing a low-zero maintenance and attractive slope, this class has information that almost all gardeners can benefit from. Please invite your friends; this is sure to be a crowd pleaser!
