At the southwest edge of the campground, nestled in the trees and laurel while gazing into the rocky edge of the national forest, there is an elevated screened in bunkhouse located beside the river.
The River House is our answer to the southern sleeping porch, it’s the coolest spot to sleep in the summer months.
The River House has four sleeping areas and a shared sitting area. Downstairs has two full size beds which are walled on three sides with a curtain on the front, a wood burning stove, a small sink, jacket hooks, and storage nooks at each bed. Upstairs is a half-height loft which is split into two 6.5ft. x 6.5ft. areas. There are two twin mattresses in each of the upstairs rooms (which can be used side by side to make king-size beds or double-stacked for single comfort), shelving and jackets hooks. Bed linens are not provided.
This site has a Breeo fire pit with grill, Adirondack chairs, a picnic table and direct, private access to the Nantahala River. It can also accommodate an additional tent site and parking for two cars. There is no power or running water at this site. A water jug is provided and can be filled at any of the multiple water sources on the property. All water is potable and tested annually.
