Certified Naturally Grown farmers don’t use synthetic fertilizers, pesticides, herbicide, or GMOs, just like certified organic farmers. The main difference between CNG and organic is our certification model, which relies on peer inspections, transparency, and direct relationships.
We decided to get certified as we already grew to the exact standards of CNG but didn’t have a great way to articulate this to the community without using the USDA Organic certification, which is cost-prohibitive for small farmers. Thus it gave us a way to be part of a recognized national organization. Most farmers view CNG a good alternative or supplement to being certified organic.
