We are looking for a seasonal retail associate to join our team at the Nursery. This position requires plant knowledge (preferably of our local area plant needs), customer retail experience, ability to work outside and to be able to lift plant material and soil amendments bags, for loading purposes and assisting with deliveries. There is potential for growth within this position depending on performance.
Job Description
To provide customer services and general sales, maintain plant health and nursery appearance.
The following job description is a general guide for expectations while employed by Winding Stair Farm and is not all inclusive. The number one expectation is that you will use good judgement and strive for a positive outcome with all endeavors.
Primary Responsibilities:
- #1: Sell plants (and gifts, produce, etc.)
- Greet customers upon arrival with genuine hospitality, be flexible to meet customers at their location and help with any accessibility issues. Present friendly and positive demeanor. Be approachable and knowledgeable.
- Provide customers with advice from plant care to gardening suggestions to finding the appropriate plants for their project, and more.
- Interact with customers either in person or by phone in a professional and respectful manner.
- Come in with a positive attitude. Work with your team to ensure all projects are finished on time and that everyone has the help they need. If you don’t have a task, ask on the radio if anyone needs help.
- Develop suggestive selling techniques by offering add on items such as soil amendment.
- Accurate use of POS system when completing transactions
- Use of POS for looking up plant pricing and other details, as well as accessing client accounts.
- Use of internet search to find plant-specific information to answer questions.
- Maintain excellent knowledge of plant material through self-study, continuing education and working alongside employees with more experience.
- Assist with unloading of plant deliveries, checking plant quantities received, stickering and placing plants in appropriate locations.
- If working outside, work with the Outside Lead Associate, to ensure plant health by watering, fertilizing, pruning, re-potting, moving locations and any other means and to keep retail spaces tidy, including weeding the grounds and in pots, signage and displays, and plant organization.
- If inside, work on stocking, tidying, cleaning, and generally maintaining displays and public areas, including restrooms, or other projects, as designated by the Inside Lead Associate.
- Follow cull plant procedures
- Assist with seasonal-specific projects (such as installing greenhouse plastic, potting up production plants, wreath classes, etc.) and projects requested by your team leaders.
