Winding Stair Farm, comprising two farm locations (the retail nursery and a rustic campground) is operated by a dedicated team of amazing people. While we all work together, we each excel in our own field.
The Farm Team
Our Farm has 2 locations: Valley and Mountain.
The Valley Farm (next to our retail Nursery in Franklin, NC) is our main location for vegetable production. Here, we cultivate certified naturally grown, farm-to-table produce, using sustainable and natural farming practices. Our vegetable starts begin in our new farm propagation space, ensuring healthy plants from seed to harvest.
The Mountain Farm (a private residence) is less than a mile from the Appalachian Trail and sits on the Nantahala River. Our Mountain Farm is where it all began. While primarily dedicated to pasture-raised sheep and poultry, this location also houses our grist mill, where we produce stone-ground grits and cornmeal. Additionally, we set aside an acre for small-scale vegetable production, continuing our commitment to sustainable farming.
The Nursery Team – Experts in Native & Sustainable Gardening
The nursery team is made up of passionate plant experts, each bringing a wealth of gardening knowledge to help our customers find the perfect native plants, vegetable starts, and sustainable gardening supplies. Some are full time, some part, and some seasonal.
