Winding Stair Farm, comprising 2 farm locations, the retail nursery, and a campground is operated by a dedicated team of amazing people. While we all work together, we each excel in our own field.
The Farm Team
Our Farm has 2 locations: Valley and Mountain.
The Valley Farm (next to the Nursery) is our main location for vegetable production. Right here, we grow all of our produce and vegetable plant starts – all local, organic-practices and certified naturally grown. We start our vegetable production in our new farm propagation space.
The Mountain Farm (a private residence) is less than a mile from the Appalachian Trail and sits on the Nantahala River. We began the whole shebang here, which is now mostly devoted to pasture for sheep and poultry. One acre is set aside for some vegetable production. This location is also home to our new grist mill.
The Nursery Team
The nursery team comprises all manner of knowledgeable folk. Some are full time, some part, and some seasonal.
- Amanda: Who finally admits she is the General Manager, as well as taking on marketing and event planning at the nursery.
- Becky: A wonderful administrator who keeps the place ticking
- Briana: A keen horticulturalist, she’s happiest when she’s keeping us organized and helping people find what they need.
- Clayton: He’s learnt from the best and is a wonderful, intelligent face that greets you when come to the nursery.
- Jeff: Jeff works behind the scenes to maintain the nursery with pretty much all its needs. If it’s broken, Jeff fixes it and with a smile on his face too!
- Josh: You’ll see Josh everywhere, mainly assisting Jeff with keeping us running smoothly.
- Georgia: A positivity powerhouse who enthusiastically takes on our retail buying needs and makes sure you have a great customer experience.
- Liz: If she’s not helping you with your plant purchases and recommending solutions for your garden (or making you smile), then she’ll be everywhere – literally, there’s nothing Liz can’t do!
- Maria: Her passion is helping the plants to thrive! A wealth of knowledge and super helpful to our landscapers and retail customers alike.
- Rivette: Our native plant warrior, Rivette can help you with all your plant needs but has a keen knowledge on native plants and their medicinal benefits.
Throughout the Spring and Summer months you’ll get so see more people around the nursery. In 2023, you may have bumped into Ann, Beth, Chase, Dylan, Kimi, Meredith, Mike and Shay! (All of whom we hope will be back in 2024!)
The Campground Team
Our campground is managed by the wonderful Robyn, who helps our guests with everything from reservations to helping them with custom needs to make their stay the best it can be. Robyn is assisted by Greg and Stacy, as well as her husband Josh to keep this beautiful place in pristine condition.
