Rachel Bellavance is a local musician who plays guitar, ukulele, piano, and sings. Rachel works on writing her own music and also performs covers of popular songs.

Jill and Brannen from Spriggly’s Beescaping are joining us for our anniversary event, where Jill will read their delightful story. The book, A Story of a Mason Bee, looks at the lives of six beneficial native creatures through an engaging and educational tale and is available to buy at the nursery or directly from Jill and Brannen. Get here by 1pm to enjoy!
Join the Winding Stair Farm team to take a tour of the nursery. We’ll visit our potting shed (where the magic happens), our production houses (where the plant babies are growing) and take a sneak peak at the farm propagation house and fields.

They’ll not only have a selection of wonderful, whimsical items you can buy, but also they’re hosting a special activity at their booth. And, while we won’t have the amazing Adam Bigelow of Bigelow’s Botanical Excursions with us today, he is kindly donating TWO passes for a Wildflower Walk with himself! His walks are gentle, informative and engaging.

Sugar Hollow Solar will be here. If you’ve admired our solar panels at the nursery or mountain farm, these are the guys to talk to. We’ve save a lot on our power bills and love the appearance of our panels.
Larry from River Birch Bees (who raises honeybees in Macon County) sells his wonderful Sourwood and Wildflower Honey at our Nursery and has kindly donated a 16oz/1lb jar of Sourwood for our prize draw!
If you’ve not enjoyed one of the delicious pastries (mmm scones!) and coffee (mmm London Fog Tea as well) at Bent Willow, then stop whatever you’re doing and go there now! They have kindly offered up a $25 gift voucher as well!

The Oconee Bell Chapter – North Carolina’s newest Native Plant Society Chapter – are joining us! They’ll be here to talk Native Plants and all the wonderful work their new chapter is working on. PLUS they’re bringing some local woodland honey for a prize – it was awarded for best flavor in a blind honey tasting conference!
Also representing at our event: The Highlands Biological Station. Located in Highlands – a global diversity hotspot – their mission is to foster research, education and conservation focused on our beautiful area – the southern Blue Ridge. Come say hi and be sure to ask about the classes and other programs they offer.
Did you know that you can join the Franklin Garden Club and be a part of the good work they do around town, maintaining beautiful spaces and being all round good people? Well, now you know AND you can meet them and join them in their efforts too!
Alarka Expeditions, comprising Angela and Brent’s mission is one I think we can all get behind: To instill an abiding love and respect for the plants, animals, land & waters of our southern Appalachian mountains in the heart of every human. They offer many tours of our lovely part of the world, including Kayak Trips. Brent is also the Director of the Blue Ridge Bartram Trail Club. Look it up!
Read2Me is a non-profit, community-driven organization who put books in the hands of the children of Macon County, NC. They will be here with books for kids. Please check them out and donate if you can to help this amazing cause.
The Macon County Famers Market: Did you know that we are on the cusp of having a brand new Farmers Market here in Franklin? Starting in May, Iotla Street by the Gazebo on the square from 9am to 2pm. Local farmers and produce growers, crafters, bakers and more!
The Macon County Master Gardeners will also be with us; they engage the community through education and outreach. Follow them on Facebook and ask them while you’re here what it takes to become a Master Gardener.
If you’ve not attended one of Sharon Mandel‘s yoga sessions at the nursery (there’s more coming this year), and not had the joy of experiencing her soothing tones as she walks you through a series of poses, then you haven’t lived. Sharon has offered up a free personal session and will be here at our anniversary. Make sure you stop by and talk to her.
