What’s a CSA?
A CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) allows members to purchase a share at the beginning of the growing season. In return, they receive a weekly delivery of fresh, seasonal, Certified Naturally Grown produce from the farm. This year, most of our produce will be grown at our Valley Farm here in Franklin, NC.

Payment Methods:
We accept online payments, cash, check, credit card and SNAP/EBT (with double matching!). We also offer payment plans.

Pay by SNAP/EBT:
To ensure all members of our community can access fresh, local, certified naturally grown produce, our privately funded Double SNAP program allows your $125 spent in SNAP dollars to cover the total cost ($250) of the 10 week CSA program. When completing the sign up form, please check the SNAP option. You will receive instructions on how to pay with your card. (Learn about Winding Stair Farm and SNAP/EBT).

Meet our Farmer, Tolvin:

Joining us for his SECOND season at Winding Stair, is Tolvin. Having been exposed to agriculture from a young age, he comes to us with 10 years of experience in the hospitality industry and 4 years in farming.

CSA Member Bonus:

On CSA pick up day, you’ll be able to enjoy a special CSA-member-only 10% discount off anything available to buy both at the farm and nursery.

What to Expect in your CSA Share:

Our farm team at Winding Stair plans to provide a bountiful and beautiful mix of Certified Naturally Grown vegetables each week for their CSA members. The risks and rewards of seasonal farming are shared between its supporters and its farmers. In an effort to give members a wide range of variety, we may choose to purchase some produce from one of our partner farms. Expect to pick up a surprising mix of produce in your CSA share! The following is a guide to what you will receive and when, but is not all inclusive list.

  • EARLY: Lettuce, Kale, Spinach, Carrots, Turnips, Rainbow Chard, Bok Choy, Beets, Herbs

Frequently Asked Questions:

1. What if I realize I’m going to be late or miss the pickup time?
Please call the nursery on 828-369-9778 two days before the CSA Pick Up Date.  All shares that are not picked up will be donated to a local family in need.

2. What if we are going to be out of town for several weeks this summer?
We strongly suggest you find a friend or neighbor who might want to pick up and share in the bounty that is fresh and sustainably grown food. You may also choose to have us donate your share to the local family in need.

3. How does Winding Stair Farm figure out what to include in the CSA? How do you calculate its worth?
We spend hours before each season planning what will be planted in our garden and at what time. Our goal is to ensure that each share will be balanced and include a variety of vegetables. Our members can expect to receive the same dollar amount of naturally grown vegetables that would be acquired at any local area farmer’s market.

4. Where can I get more of your produce?
In our farm shop you can find farm fresh eggs, produce and locally grown meat and of course a diverse selection of house plants, farm vegetable starts, native plants and ornamental plants.

5. Are there any exclusive perks that come along with CSA Membership?
Our CSA members will receive a weekly email that includes farm updates and tips on how to use what’s in your share. (Plus 10% off any purchase you make at Winding Stair Farm on the CSA pick up day).

6. I need assistance purchasing my CSA Share. Can you help?
We are happy to accommodate those requiring financial assistance. Winding Stair Farm accepts SNAP/EBT payments for our CSA Program. And thanks to our kind donors, when using your EBT benefits, you will only pay 50% of the cost of your share. When you sign up, check the box for SNAP and/or for payment plans.
