Community Areas are available to all campers.

The Pack Room:

A cozy place to get local information, view maps, and grab some local groceries when in season. Also available to all campers are washing sinks with hot water, a toaster oven and microwave. Forget something? Need a little extra? We provide an Honesty Store for your comfort. Campers can pay by with cash or check via the red honesty box or the PayPal app. Books and local guides are for your use while on the property. Please enjoy and return.

The Bathhouse:

The restored Bath House is split into boys’ and girls’ sides: each side has 2 private showers, 4 flushing toilets, sinks, hot water, and gas heat. It even has pink tile on one side, and blue on the other – we’ll let you guess which side has which color. Toilet paper and Filaree hand soap, shampoo and conditioner provided. Just bring your personal supplies and towels.

The Pavilion:

The Pavilion is a large 40×30 ft. open sided pavilion overlooking the Nantahala River. It has an ample fireplace, running water sink (when the temperatures are consistently above freezing), counter space, couches, and table with benches.

[The Pavilion] is where I spent most of my evenings at Winding Stair, by the large community fireplace, mug of hot cocoa (who am I kidding? a warm red wine) in hand, and winning at a classic game of Cheat! One of my friends interrupted me from my winning streak and pointed out the carpet of blinking stars in the sky above. We sat there for a good five minutes without a word. If the whole campground is magical, the Pavilion is the mixing pot where it all happens.

The River Area:camping

The headwaters of the beautiful Nantahala river runs along the lower part of the campground. While 3 campsites (Fern Gully, Johnsonville, and River House) have their own private access to the river, there is a large portion available for all campers to enjoy.

Sit by the river, enjoying the sounds, looking for fish, pollinators and, yes, occasionally a deer wandering past. A set of stone steps lead into the river allowing you and your group access to play in the river. This water is fed by all the adjacent mountains so expect it to be chilly. Catch and release fishing only.  Guests must stay within our property lines indicated upstream and downstream, while the entire bank on the other side of the river is off limits.

Electric Vehicle Charger:

Traveling in an electric vehicle? Recharge for free at our dedicated EV 50amp outlet when you stay at any of our sites. Charger located on Group Lane, closest side to the entrance. First come, first served.

Working Farm:

Farm location

The campground is alongside our working farm. Campers are welcome to meet our Icelandic sheep, guineas, geese, chickens and Mama Peaches, our resident mini donkey, while taking a self-guided tour of our farm, along designated pathways. Directional and information signs are posted. We also have a tour book you can borrow that includes detailed  information about each site and area. Pick up the tour book in the Pack Room!

Attend one of our scheduled private farm tours.

Communication: While there is no cell service on camp, we are sure you will find a much stronger connection unplugged and in nature. There is, however, limited free Wi-Fi available near the Pack Room and an emergency landline available. A short drive from the campground is a beautiful overlook where you can pick up cell service if you need to make calls.

Secure and Private: The campground and farm are fenced in on three sides with the river being the fourth boundary. Personal code to the entrance gate will be provided at check in.
