Rainbow Springs Campground. A stopping place for many a hiker in years gone by.

Rainbow Springs Campground

The Rainbow Springs Campground had been closed for a number of years when Stacy and Greg bought the property.  But from late 80s to the early 2000s, Rainbow Springs Campground was a welcome sight to thru hikers on the Appalachian Trail (AT) and car campers alike.  Buddy and Jensine Crossman owned and ran the place which had previously been part of the Ritter Logging operations in the 1920s and then a fishing camp.  The couple moved to Franklin, NC and further developed the property to include 30+ RV hook-ups, cabins, bunkhouse, yurt, bathhouse, pavilion, store and laundry.

During the off season Jensine made stocks of her famous chili to be enjoyed by hungry hikers coming off the AT after hiking north 100 miles.  She and Buddy also maintained the camp store, which was a resupply for hikers, campers and locals who could find basic items without having to make the 15 mile journey into town.  Hikers could enjoy a hot shower while washing their clothes before the next leg of the journey.

The campground re-opened as part of Winding Stair Farm in 2022 for both camping and glamping experiences. Learn More and Book!
